Penny Jar wanted to break away from the cookie-cutter VC website formula. Instead of the typical 20-page site filled with generic messaging, they envisioned something radically different—a minimal, small website centered around an AI-powered chat that provides personalized answers to any question about the firm, their portfolio or their approach.
The centerpiece of the homepage is a custom Three.js scroll-based animation that brings their "penny jar" philosophy to life. As users scroll, a penny spins and drops into a jar, reinforcing their message of collective support and compounding value. The animation continues throughout the experience—furthering the concept each time a penny drops into the jar. The AI chat integration required extensive customization to match the site's aesthetic, creating a seamless chat experience that allows founders and investors to ask anything and receive detailed, accurate responses from Penny Jar's personalized knowledge base.
Early testing with portfolio companies generated strong positive feedback, with many impressed by the innovative approach to VC engagement. The result is a website experience that shows rather than tells, reflecting Penny Jar's commitment to doing things differently in the venture capital space.
